Loud Boom Heard Across Orange County 'Sonic-Related'
SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — A loud boom heard across Orange County Wednesday that was initially believed to be an earthquake was "sonic-related," officials said.
"We reached out to Caltech, and they said it's not seismic; it's sonic-related," said Vicki Osborn, an assistant emergency manager in the Orange County Sheriff's Department.
Ian Gregor of the Federal Aviation Administration said the sonic boom would had to have come from military aircraft.
Officials at Camp Pendleton had no training scheduled or conducted on Wednesday, according to Sgt. Christopher Duncan.
The Los Angeles Times later reported that the boom came from a supersonic U.S. Navy flight, which was part of an operation with the U.S.S. Ronald Reagan.
