Lost In The Fire: How A Life Quickly Went Up In Flames
SANTA CLARITA (CBSLA.com) — By the time Donna Fink got out of bed, she knew something was wrong. It was daytime, but her bedroom was dark. She suddenly realized her Santa Clarita home of 37 years was nearly surrounded by a wall of flames. Within minutes, it was engulfed from last month's Sand Fire.
While trying to evacuate with her boyfriend, they got separated in the chaos. When she tried to desperately find him, a firefighter approached.
"He said lady, lady, we gotta go now because we are both going to die in this fire," Fink said.

The firefighter threw her over her shoulder and whisked her to safety.
Unfortunately, a few hours later, her partner Bob of 11 years, was found dead in a waiting car.
"There was absolutely no time," Fink said.

Fink was not under an evacuation order and says she had no warning.
"I would tell people, if there's any (type) of danger, even before the danger, they need to leave."
Fink, who is now staying in a hotel, also lost a dog she had 12 years and two cats. Two of her other dogs did survive, but she lost all her belongings.
"I walked out of there with the clothes on my back," Fink said.
