Long Beach Traffic Stop Leads To $3.6M Cocaine Bust

LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — A routine traffic stop led to the discovery of nearly 80 pounds of cocaine with a street value of up to $3.6 million, police said Tuesday.

Hildefonso Angulo, 28, was stopped Monday in the 6900 block of Atlantic Avenue for a traffic-related violation. Officers noticed he seemed unusually nervous and was found to be driving without a license, according to police.

Officers who searched Angulo's car before it was impounded found packaging material consistent with large quantities of narcotics, officials said.

Police say the investigation led officers to Angulo's home in the 1100 block of East 72nd Street in Long Beach, where they seized approximately 79.20 pounds of cocaine, more than three pounds of methamphetamine, a handgun and ammunition, as well as more than $3,000 in cash and a stolen vehicle.

Angulo was arrested and booked on suspicion of possessing narcotics for sale, Long Beach police officials said.

He was being held on $1 million bail.
