Long Beach Masseuse Gets 3 Years For Procedure That Killed Client

LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) – A Long Beach massage therapist will serve three years in jail after pleading guilty to performing an illegal procedure on a customer that led to her death in 2014.

As part of a deal with prosecutors, 48-year-old Sandra Yaneth Pérez-González plead guilty Monday to a single count of involuntary manslaughter in the death of 36-year-old Hamilet Suarez, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney's office.

Suarez passed away after receiving a buttocks enhancement from González on Feb. 12, 2014, at Areli's Beauty Salon at 2113 Pacific Ave.

Suarez went into cardiac arrest under suspicious circumstances and later died. González was initially arrested and released in February 2014. She was re-arrested in February of this year on suspicion of murder.

Following her plea Monday, she was immediately sentenced to three years in jail, the D.A.'s office said.

Prosecutors say González' salon offered cosmetic procedures that included "buttocks and lip enhancements and vampire facelifts," which by law must be performed by a licensed doctor.

González had done a similar procedure on a relative of Suarez prior to her death, prosecutors said.
