Long Beach Man Suspected Of Running Up To Women, Sexually Assaulting Them
LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — A Long Beach man faces charges of running up to women and sexually assaulting them, and detectives believe he may have more victims.
Miguel Avila, 19, was arrested Monday on suspicion of sexual assault, Long Beach police said. Avila, who is being held on $355,000 bail, was found to be on parole for a sex-related offense and was out of compliance with his registration requirements.
Police say a woman was out walking with a friend near 4th Street and Orange Avenue at about 2 a.m. on Nov. 9 when a man ran up behind her and slapped her on the butt. When she confronted the man, he exposed himself and wrapped himself around the woman, then ran away, police said.
Less than a week later, on Nov. 9 at about the same time, a woman told police she was walking with a small group of people when a man ran up behind her, pushed her to the ground and sexually assaulted her.
Avila was charged Thursday with three counts of assault with intent to commit a felony with the felony being a sexual assault and one count of failure to register, police said.
