Local Shelter Asking For Miracle For Puppies Rescued From Bakersfield 'Hell Hole'

THOUSAND OAKS (CBSLA.com)  —  The Shelter Hope Pet Shop in Thousand Oaks is asking for the public to light candles and pray for a group of puppies they rescued last week from Bakersfield.

The group described the place where the puppies were rescued from as "a hell hole."

Originally, the group set out to rescue 10 puppies. By the time the group's transporter arrived, they said three of the dogs were already dead -- two killed by a neighbor's dog and the third hit by a car.

Shelter Hope's Kim Sill writes, "The situation for the surviving seven dogs was [also] dire."

At least four of the puppies have been diagnosed with deadly Canine Parvovirus, fatal in more than 90 percent of cases.

One of those four has already died, said Sill.

"We desperately need a miracle, so that is why we are asking for prayers, or a candle lit, while thinking of these precious, innocent souls, trying to cling to life," said Sill.

The dogs are being cared for at Pet Care Center, a non-profit clinic in Los Angeles.
