Local Fans Gather To Celebrate Triple Crown At American Pharoah's Home Santa Anita Track

SANTA ANITA (CBSLA.com) — Local competitive horse American Pharoah made history on Saturday by becoming the first Triple Crown winner in 37 years, and local fans gathered in a big way to cheer him on from his home track.

American Pharoah, who calls Santa Anita his home, won the biggest prize in racing by taking the Belmont Stakes in New York, and he was supported by thousands of loyal fans 2,800 miles away, at the Santa Anita racetrack.

American Pharoah's ties to the Santa Anita track made it a special day indeed for those fans.

"It just re-cements in the opinion and the mind's eye, if you will, of people in racing around the country, and the world that despite the fact that Hollywood Park is closed, we can still develop, train and race horses of this magnitude" Mike Willman said.
