Legendary Beverly House, Where 'Godfather' Was Filmed, Up For Sale For $135M

BEVERLY HILLS (CBSLA.com) — The Beverly House, the former home of publishing mogul William Randolph Hearst, is up for sale for $135 million.

The $135 million price tag makes the property the highest-priced residence for sale in California, according to its listing agency.

According to Bloomberg.net, the home has been up for sale several times since 2007. At that time, it was being offered for $165 million.

The nearly 4-acre Beverly Hills property, listed by real estate company Hilton & Hyland, features five buildings, 28 bedrooms, 36 bathrooms, wine cellar, gym, eight car garage and staff accommodations. It also features a lighted tennis court, media center, art deco nightclub, massage room, two screening rooms and an outdoor terrace that can accommodate 400 friends for dinner. Interested buyers should also know the billiard room has herringbone parquet floors.

It is currently owned by attorney Leonard Ross and is located about three blocks from Sunset Boulevard.

Bloomberg said Ross decided to put the compound up for sale after learning a Holmby Hills mansion about 2.5 miles away sold for $102 million (cash) earlier this week.

According to Hilton & Hyland, the Beverly House has a storied history.

In addition to being the one-time Hearst home, the compound was also featured in "The Bodyguard" and "The Godfather," as well as being a destination for John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy on their honeymoon.
