LAX Tightens Security In Wake Of Paris Terror Attacks
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — U.S. airports have increased security in the wake of dual terror attacks in Paris and the publication by al Qaeda of a detailed bomb recipe.
Local airport police say there is no specific threat against LAX, but they are working with federal law enforcement officials to make sure travelers are safe.
The Hungates from South Carolina were flying through LAX to Australia Tuesday, and said they were pleased to hear about additional checkpoints checks.
"I am very happy to think there's more security, because I want to be safe. I want all the other passengers to be safe as well," Rita Hungate said.
The Department of Homeland Security announced last week plans to beef up security at the nation's airports, including random luggage and passenger searches at the gate as travelers are about to board.
Ellen Grenegard, before her flight to Sweden, said she was concerned, but that wouldn't stop her from traveling.
"[I am] a little bit, of course, especially because I'm traveling to Europe and I just can't look beyond what has happened," she said.
Passengers connecting through LAX said Tuesday they had not experienced any longer wait times due to tightened security.
