LAX Runway To Close Through Summer For Construction

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A runway at Los Angeles International Airport will be closed over the summer and into fall to make way for federally mandated construction, airport officials said Monday.

The outboard runway 24R/6L at the north runway complex is being taken out of commission starting today through Oct. 19 as the airport upgrades the landing strip to make it safer for arriving and departing flights.

Flight delays similar to those experienced during inclement weather at LAX may occur during the closure, according to airport officials.

Residents near LAX may also notice a change in flight activity and noise due to planes that would otherwise land on the north outboard runway will instead land on the north inboard runway, officials said.
