Latest Protest Forces LAPD To Help Families Of Those Shot By Officers

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Protesters upset about recent shootings of blacks and Latinos forced the LAPD to shut down its police commission meeting Tuesday.

It's almost a weekly occurrence at the meetings. An angry, emotional family member demanding answers: "Why did the LAPD shoot and kill my loved one," or "Seriously injure my loved one."

After the disruption, police promised to help families who have been affected by officer-involved shootings.

CBS 2's Dave Lopez was at the downtown headquarters as LAPD Chief Charlie Beck took steps to organize the LAPD Family Liaison Program. The new task force will be in charge of getting speedy, pertinent information to affected families.

No timetable has been set for the program to launch, but the commission urged Beck to act quickly.
