Suspect Lawndale Gunman Taken Into Custody After Being Shot

LAWNDALE (CBSLA.com) — A suspected gunman was taken away on a stretcher Wednesday after being shot during a standoff in Lawndale.

The 23-year-old suspect fired several shots outside a home in the 4200 block of W. 164 Street near Hawthorne Boulevard, officials said.

Nearby homes were evacuated during the standoff.

KCAL9's Cristy Fajardo said the suspect could be seen firing several rounds into the air.

Fajardo said after 2 p.m. the suspect began firing at officers.

"At which point," said Nicole Nishida with the LA County Sheriff's Department, "they came under fire and a deputy-involved shooting took place."

The male suspect -- now identified as Travis Herr -- was taken to an area hospital and is in stable condition, according to the LASD.

The California Highway Patrol closed the Hawthorne Blvd. offramps during the investigation.

No deputies were injured in the incident.

Herr faces charges of attempted murder on a peace officer.
