LAPD: Total Of 323 Arrested During 3 Days Of Protests

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Police have arrested 323 people this week during protests over the Mike Brown grand jury decision, the Los Angeles Police Department said Thursday.

"If you're here to disrupt the flow of traffic, to put people at risk, to get up on our freeways, to run in and out of traffic, to attack cars by kicking them or with skateboards, we're not going to let you do that," Chief Charlie Beck said.

According to officials, 130 protesters were arrested Wednesday night after an unlawful assembly was declared in the area of Sixth Street and Hope Street downtown.

Police used zip ties to cuff demonstrators before putting them on buses for transport to the jail.

"Those arrested will be able to post bail, amounting to about $500," Lt. Andy Nemain said.

Protesters arrested were part of a larger group called The Coalition for Community Control Over the Police that began protesting in the downtown area around 4 p.m. outside the federal courthouse on Spring Street.

Earlier Wednesday, seven people were arrested when they stopped traffic on the southbound 101 Freeway at Alvarado Street.

On Tuesday night, 183 people were taken into custody for disorderly conduct after a rallies threatened public safety downtown.

The LAPD also said three people were arrested Monday night in similar demonstrations.

The ACLU has questioned the lawfulness of the mass arrests, KNX 1070 reported. The LAPD maintains all arrests were made on firm, legal grounds.
