Driver of stolen work truck arrested near Bakersfield after dangerous police pursuit
A driver who allegedly stole a work truck and led authorities on a dangerous pursuit through several counties was arrested on Thursday morning in East Kern near Bakersfield.
The Los Angeles Police Department said officers began following the Traffic Management truck around 9:25 a.m. near Western and Franklin Avenue. Authorities initiated a pursuit at 10:08 a.m.
Aerial footage of the pursuit showed several traffic signs and cones in the bed of the truck. The driver was also seen traveling at a high rate of speed on the freeway through several counties.
Around 10:24 a.m, the California Highway Patrol took over the pursuit on the northbound 14 Freeway in Canyon Country. At 11:00 a.m., the CHP deployed a spike strip and several tires were damaged. The driver continued driving on the rim of the tires until finally coming to a stop at 11:15 a.m.
The driver was taken into custody without incident. No injuries were reported during the pursuit.
