Stolen Car Suspect In Custody After Wild, 'Erratic' Chase

SOUTH LA (CBSLA.com) — Los Angeles Police have a stolen car suspect in custody after a wild chase through South LA streets.

Stu Mundel, reporting in Sky9, said the driver has been "erratic."

Mundel reported "numerous" close calls where the suspect nearly side-swiped other cars.

"He's making lots of crazy U-turns. He's a menace to the public," Mundel said.

At times the driver went up on sidewalks, drove on the wrong side of the road and went through red lights. He also nearly hit several pedestrians.

Sylvia Lopez, anchoring for KCAL9, said there were so many close calls "we have lost count."

The chase started about 2:45, said authorities. The chase ended with police taking the suspect into custody about 3:35 p.m.

Mundel said the suspect was taken into custody near a school in Compton.
