PANORAMA CITY (CBSLA.com) — Los Angeles police officers Tuesday shot a man armed with a gun in Panorama City, authorities said, and he later died.

The shooting occurred about 3:15 p.m. in a residential neighborhood on Parthenia Street near Cedros Avenue, according to Officer Ricardo Hernandez of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, and a gun was recovered, officials said.

Before the shooting, officers were called to the area of Roscoe Boulevard and Willis Avenue to investigate a report of someone disturbing the peace.

About two blocks from the reported disturbance, they saw a man matching the suspect's description on Parthenia Street, Hernandez said. He was holding a gun. That's when officers shot him.

Hernandez said the officers involved were wearing body cameras, but the video will not be made available at this time, Hernandez said.
