Police Officer Shot In Hawthorne Expected To Survive

HAWTHORNE (CBSLA.com) — A Hawthorne police officer has been shot in the leg during a shootout at a Public Storage facility and has been transported to a local hospital.

The shooting happened at Rosecrans Avenue and Inglewood Avenue at about 4:45 p.m. Saturday. The man who shot at the officer was also wounded in the torso, authorities said. Both are expected to survive.

Witnesses say the man was firing his gun even before police arrived and that he was also in possession of a machete. There could have been some sort of argument between the man and a Public Storage employee. Another officer was also injured, possibly from the machete, an investigator said.

No further information was available.
