LAPD Officer Sentenced To Probation In 2008 Perjury Case

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A Los Angeles Police Department officer Wednesday was sentenced to three years probation for lying under oath in a 2008 drug possession case.

Manuel Ortiz, 40, also must complete 900 hours of either graffiti removal or Caltrans work, the District Attorney's Office said.

Ortiz was found guilty in February of one count each of conspiracy and perjury.

During a January 2008 preliminary hearing for a defendant in a drug case, Ortiz falsely testified about his involvement in the underlying investigation, the District Attorney's Office said.

The drug possession case against the defendant was dismissed after footage from the apartment building's security camera contradicted the sworn testimony of the officers.
