LAPD Officer Nabbed In Drug Sting Pleads Not Guilty

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — An LAPD officer pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges that he offered to provide prescription drugs to an undercover detective through a classified ad website.

In a news release, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said Randolph Agard, 40, surrendered and was arraigned Tuesday morning. He is charged with one count of sale or transportation for sale of a controlled substance, and one count of possession for sale of a controlled substance.

According to the DA's office, the LAPD's Northeast Narcotic Enforcement Detail sought drugs through an online classified ad as part of an undercover investigation. Agard allegedly responded to the ad the day it appeared, and agreed to a meeting.

Agard came to the predetermined meeting place on April 23, according to the DA's office, and was arrested by LAPD narcotics officers who allegedly found 20 hydrocodone pills in his possession.

Agard, who is scheduled to return to court to set a date for a preliminary hearing on July 17, faces up to five years in prison if convicted.
