LAPD Sergeant Hospitalized After Being Struck By Vehicle In Sylmar

SYLMAR (CBSLA.com) — A Los Angeles Police Department sergeant remained hospitalized on Tuesday after being struck by a civilian driver in Sylmar.

The incident unfolded around 1:30 a.m. in the area of Eldridge Avenue and Hubbard Street, according to the LAPD.

Authorities explained the sergeant was assisting officers in a search for a robbery suspect when a vehicle struck him as he stood in the street.

Paramedics transported him to a hospital for treatment of a serious head injury and several broken bones.

The sergeant, who has been with the force for more than 20 years, is alert and talking with fellow colleagues.

According to police, the robbery suspect has not been located.

The driver who struck the officer was not intoxicated at the time of the crash.

The incident remains under investigation.
