LAPD: Mission Station Evacuated After Woman Walks In With Grenade

MISSION HILLS (CBSLA.com) — The LAPD's Mission Station was evacuated Sunday after a woman walked in with a grenade she said she found in her grandson's closet.

A bomb squad was sent to the station, located in the 11100 block of North Sepulveda Boulevard in Mission Hills, shortly after 1 p.m.

Police say the woman's grandson was in the Army.

The northbound 405 off-ramp at Rinaldi Street was closed as police investigated. The ramp was re-opened shortly after 3 p.m.

The device was determined to be safe after about two hours.

Police told City News Service that if a person finds a potentially explosive device to leave it where it is and contact authorities to investigate.
