LAPD: Knife Found On Former OJ Simpson Property Not Linked To '94 Murders

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A knife that was purportedly found on property once owned by O.J. Simpson is not connected to the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman, Los Angeles police said Friday.

Police revealed last month investigators had begun testing a knife allegedly discovered by a construction worker in the late 1990s at the site of the Rockingham estate in Brentwood, who then gave it to an LAPD officer working on a nearby movie shoot.

According to the LAPD, George Maycott, the retired officer who found the knife, only recently turned the knife over to the department for testing to determine it may have been used in the 1994 murders. Simpson was tried and acquitted on all charges in the slayings.

Investigators said Friday the knife has "no nexus" to the murder investigation, which remains open. The murder weapons has never been found.

Maycott says he contacted the department immediately when the construction worker gave him the knife, but was told the case was over and there was no interest in the weapon.

Attorney Trent Copeland said Maycott then took the 5-inch buck knife home and put it in a toolbox, where it sat for roughly 15 years.

Norman Pardo, Simpson's former manager, told reporters last month that O.J. was "shrugging off" reports of the knife.
