Van Nuys Police Fatally Shoot Man Suspected Of Throwing Rocks At Cars

VAN NUYS (CBSLA.com) —  Police Friday were investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting in the San Fernando Valley.

The shooting happened around 3:30 a.m. in the 6700 block of Hayvenhurst Avenue in Van Nuys, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Neighbors called 911 to report a man yelling and throwing rocks at vehicles.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a man matching the suspect description and tried to arrest him.

"They attempted to use less-lethal means to take this individual into custody. Unfortunately, that proved to be ineffective and an officer-involved shooting occurred," Sgt. Albert Gonzalez said.

The suspect, an unidentified Hispanic man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities were still investigating if the suspect had a weapon or fired any shots at police.

No officers were injured.

Police hoped to release more information later Friday.
