Possible murder suspect taken into custody after dangerous South LA pursuit

LAPD pursue stolen vehicle, possible homicide suspect

A driver in a stolen red sedan, who was also a possible homicide suspect led Los Angeles Police Department officers on a pursuit through South Los Angeles surface streets around 9:30 a.m. Thursday before being taken into custody after fleeing the vehicle. 

The pursuit began near Slauson and Western avenues. Police chased the speeding sedan as the driver recklessly raced along the roads, running stop signs and signals and hitting three cars as well as a parked truck trailer.

As SKYCal flew overhead, smoke could be seen coming from the car and the speed of the chase slowed due to extensive vehicle damage.    

The driver the led police through a shopping center parking lot, weaving about for several minutes.

Around 9:40 a.m. the driver ran out of the vehicle at S. Manhattan Place and W. 57th street, escaping into a residential area, sprinting across lawns and jumping  fences. 

Police ultimately were able to catch the suspect and took him into custody.
