LAPD Identifies Found Boy After He Writes Down Phone Number

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA)  --  The LAPD spent hours Saturday hoping the public could help them identifying a found boy's family member or legal guardian.

A boy, about 8-10 years of age, was observed by Los Angeles Police Department Officers around 1 p.m.  jumping on and off and on a Metro Purple Line train heading towards Union Station. The child was not accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Around 5 p.m., police asked the boy to write down a phone number. He did and the boy's father answered the phone at work.

The father said the boy was supposed to be home with his mother.

The boy has autism and was previously unable to tell police who his parents or guardian were.

Police and the Department of Children and Family Services are now trying to determine how the boy got to the Metro station and why his mother did not apparently report him missing.
