Suspicious device forces evacuation, brings bomb squad to LAPD's Foothill Station

Investigation ongoing after military ordnance found outside of LAPD station in Pacoima

A suspicious device located outside of the Los Angeles Police Department's Foothill Station in Pacoima prompted evacuations and brought a bomb squad to the scene on Saturday afternoon before it was discovered to be a military ordnances left behind by a couple, police said.

The discovery was made at around 2:30 p.m. outside of the station, which is located at 12760 Osborne Street, according to police.

Investigators say that a couple was cleaning out the home of a deceased family member when they found the items, deemed to be live military explosives.

"Officers went to the individuals' car and found a plastic box with several military ordnances inside," said a post on X from the department.

Both the station and the surrounding area were evacuated as bomb squad investigator surveyed the items, which were deemed stable enough to be moved to storage after they were gathered by a robot.

"Because they were military devices, the LAPD collaborated with the United States Marine Corps' Camp Pendleton EOD unit to determine whether the items were stable enough to be moved to storage," another X post read.

Experts will retrieve the items at a later date, police said.

They also noted that the couple who dropped the items off had good intentions, but others who find themselves in a similar situation should leave the items untouched and contact authorities.

In all, four businesses were evacuated along with the LAPD station. All evacuation orders have since been lifted.
