LAPD Closes Sepulveda Basin Due To High Water Levels

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Police closed the Sepulveda Basin Friday.

Authorities said high water levels from the major winter storm prompted the closure.

"We were notified at about 5:30 a.m. . . . that it had reached a critical point," Lt. Paul Weber said.

As a result, the following road closures were in effect:

  • Eastbound Burbank to Balboa boulevards
  • Hayvenhurst Avenue to Burbank boulevard
  • Westbound Burbank Boulevard from the 405 Freeway
  • Southbound Woodley Avenue to Victory Boulevard

"We're asking people to avoid the area. Its going to be shut down until further notice. Based on weather reports, we're anticipating that the situation is going to become more difficult, not easier, throughout the day," Lt. Weber said.

The Department of Transportation has also set up barricades on the affected streets.
