LAPD Adds 100 Electric Cars To Fleet

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Police Department has added 100 electric cars to its fleet as replacements for aging vehicles.

The newly leased additions to the department motor pool announced Wednesday are BMW i3 models.

The cars are not for regular police patrols. They will largely be used by the department's civilian work force and sometimes by officers.

The LAPD is also installing 104 charging stations.

Mayor Eric Garcetti's office says the city now has 199 fully electric vehicles.
