Lancaster Man Convicted Of Slaying Girlfriend With Sword In Front Of Her 4 Children

LANCASTER (AP) — A Los Angeles County man who killed his live-in girlfriend with a sword in front of her four children has been convicted of murder.

City News Service says jurors in Lancaster deliberated about two hours Tuesday before convicting Jesus Canales of first-degree murder and four counts of child abuse. He's facing life in prison.

The El Salvador native was charged with killing 26-year-old Lucy Preciado with a sword at their Lancaster apartment in 2008. Preciado's then-9-year-old daughter called 911 to plead for help for her wounded mother.

Canales fled but was arrested in Mexico in 2013.
