Lakers Guard Wayne Ellington On Leave Of Absence After Father's Murder

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Los Angeles Lakers guard Wayne Ellington Wednesday was on a leave of absence from the team after his father was killed in Philadelphia.

According to police, 57-year-old Wayne Ellington Sr. was shot in the head while sitting in his car Sunday night in the city's Germantown neighborhood.

Ellington released a statement on the Lakers website:

"My family and I are devastated by the news of my father's murder on Sunday night in Philadelphia," he said. "We appreciate everyone's support and ask that you respect the privacy of our family during this very difficult time."

No arrests have been made in the case.

It is unknown when Ellington, who has been granted an indefinite leave of absence, will rejoin the team, the Lakers said in a statement.
