Lake Forest Man, 22, Killed While Standing Next To Disabled Vehicle On 5 Freeway

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com)  —  A 22-year-old motorist was killed while standing next to his disabled vehicle on the 5 Freeway early Saturday.

The victim was identified as Lake Forest resident Juan Cuevas-Camano, according to the coroner's office.

The crash occurred on the southbound lanes near North Grand Avenue at 2:40 a.m., according to the CHP online incident log.

Cuevas-Camano, who was involved in an earlier minor crash, stood near his 1997 Honda Accord -- reportedly without any headlights or emergency lights on -- in the No. 1 lane of the freeway. According to a CHP dispatcher, he was struck by a 2002 Toyota RAV4 going 65 mph.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Toyota, a 59-year-old woman riding alone, was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. She was not arrested or cited, according to the CHP.
