Barricade Suspect Arrested Following Standoff At Lake Balboa Home

LAKE BALBOA (CBSLA.com) — A 37-year-old barricade suspect was arrested Monday after allegedly holding his father hostage in their Lake Balboa home, police said Monday.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the standoff took place in the area of Keswick Street and Louise Avenue.

The incident began when the man reportedly threatened his mother with a rifle.

The suspect's mother later told police they were driving in a car at the time. She somehow escaped from the vehicle unharmed.

Police then tracked the man back to the residence and he subsequently barricaded himself inside.

There were reports that another person, possibly a caretaker for the father, was also inside of the home.

A preliminary investigation revealed the suspect, who suffers from a form of mental illness, shares the residence with his parents.

He was taken into custody around 5:30 a.m., police said.

No evacuation orders or injuries were reported.
