LAFD Paramedic Jose M. Perez Dies From Coronavirus Complications

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) -- A Los Angeles City Fire Department member has died from coronavirus complications.

Firefighter III/Paramedic Jose M. Perez, who had been with the LAFD for 16 years, died at a local hospital this weekend.

Fire Chief Ralph Terrazas and the entire department said in a statement that they send their "deepest and most sincere condolences" to the Perez family.

Perez was 44 years old and is survived by his wife and three children.

His death marks the first within the LAFD among the confirmed employees who had tested positive for coronavirus.

As of Friday, officials said 145 LAFD employees had tested positive for coronavirus, 108 had recovered and are back at work, and 26 are at home recovering.
