LA Recycler Offers Free Christmas Tree For Trash

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A local recycling business is offering its customers a free Christmas tree in exchange for their trash.

Amid reports of Christmas tree shortages and high prices, Active Recycling Co. Inc. in South Los Angeles is offering a free tree to customers who bring in up to 500 pounds of trash or green waste.

The recycling company says it will also offer the trees to those who bring in and sell their metal, paper or plastic recyclables, according to Senior Recycling Consultant Errol Segal.

"There's a lot of people out there who can't afford a tree, let alone a gift," Segal said. "This is just another thing I want to do to give back to the community."

The giveaway happens on Dec. 14 at the company's Slauson Avenue location. The offer, available to returning customers as well as residents who have not previously taken advantage of another free trash dump offer, is available while supplies last.
