LA Plastic Bag Ban Expands To Smaller Grocery Stores
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The plastic-bag ban in Los Angeles, which went into effect in January for large supermarkets and drug stores, will expand to smaller grocery stores next week.
Starting Tuesday, the ban will apply to stores with less than 10,000 square feet of space or that make less than $2 million a year in sales.
Paper bags costing 10 cents will be available.
Plastic sacks for produce and meat and pharmacy bags will remain free for shoppers.
Retailers could be fined hundreds of dollars for violating the order.
