LA Mayor Garcetti Hopes Chargers Stay Put, Happy With Rams
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti isn't advocating for a second team, specifically the San Diego Chargers, to move to Los Angeles.
About a week after the Rams announced their return to the city, Garcetti spoke to ESPN Radio about the possibility of another team joining them at the new Inglewood stadium.
"We'd welcome any team to come here, but I love the idea of a great rivalry to the South. We wish them luck," Garcetti said.
Garcetti also gave his advice to other mayors around the country, saying, "Don't be so desperate for a sports franchise and don't put your city in debt for decades."
The mayor met with Rams owner Stan Kroenke this past Monday to discuss the other possibilities of the new Inglewood Stadium site and surrounding areas.
The Rams will play at the Los Angeles Coliseum until the new stadium is ready, estimated to be by the 2019 season.
Kroenke and Garcetti also discussed the possibilities of the new stadium hosting NCAA Tournament games, the 2024 Summer Olympics, and other special events in the future.
