LA Marathon Course Illuminated To Mark Event's 30th Year

WEST HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA,com) — Spotlights illuminated the 26.2-mile LA Marathon course on Friday night to help celebrate the 30th running of the race, slated for Sunday.

KCAL9's Brittney Hopper was at Mile 14 on Friday night, where some of the 124 spotlights that stretched from Dodger Stadium to Santa Monica lit up the sky.

According to organizers this is the first time this has been done at any marathon in the U.S.

"In honor of the 30th running of the asics LA Marathon, we want to do something really special to celebrate the city, celebrate the marathon, celebrate the runners," said Shannon Scott of asics America "And so we thought what better way than to light up the whole entire city and the race course."

The spotlights were powered up on Friday night from 8:45 to about 10:15 p.m.
