LA Man Gets Prison In Death Of Dog In Stolen Van
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Los Angeles man accused of leaving a dog to die from the heat inside an abandoned stolen van has been sentenced to more than a year in state prison.
The District Attorney's Office says 30-year-old Danny Fis pleaded no contest to one count each of animal cruelty and unlawful driving or taking of a vehicle and was sentenced Tuesday to 16 months in prison.
The van and dog were stolen outside a clothing store in August 2013. The owner left the motor running and the air conditioning on while he went inside to get his family. When he returned, the dog and van were gone.
The van was found two days later in a parking lot with all windows up.
Inside was the dog, dead from heat exhaustion.
