LA Man Charged In Fraud Scheme Involving Warren Moon, Jarvis Green

LOS ANGELES(CBSLA.com) - A Los Angeles man was charged Friday for running a fraud scheme where he tried to lure famous athletes into buying courtside seats and partial ownership of the Miami Heat.

The California Department of Justice charged George French Jones with fraud, grand theft and identity theft.

Jones, 45, offered to sell to two-time Super Bowl Champion Jarvis Green an ownership interest in the Miami Heat and four court-side tickets for the 2013-1014 Heat season to Hall-of-Famer Warren Moon for $200,000, according to court documents.

Miami Heat representatives contacted law enforcement in May 2013 when they began to get suspicious with Jones after he attempted to sell an interest in the NBA team that he didn't own, according to the FBI.

Jones was arrest at LAX on Feb. 21 for parole violations in an unrelated case.

If convicted, he faces nine years in federal prison.
