LA Kings Defenseman Alec Martinez Undergoes Finger Surgery

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (CBSLA.com/AP) — Alec Martinez has undergone finger surgery, leaving the Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings short of healthy defensemen again.

General manager Dean Lombardi told the team's official website that playoff hero Martinez had surgery Friday.

Martinez was hurt blocking a shot midway through a 2-0 loss to Dallas. He left Staples Center wearing a wrap on his left hand.

Martinez won his second Stanley Cup title by scoring two series-winning overtime goals last summer. He won Game 7 of the Western Conference finals against Chicago. He did it again in the Stanley Cup finals against the New York Rangers, beating Henrik Lundqvist in Game 5.

The Miami University alumni is a 10 year veteran in the league.

The Kings hope Robyn Regehr will return from injury Saturday against Anaheim.
