LA Doctor Convicted Of Unlawfully Prescribing Narcotics

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A 56-year-old physician has been convicted of prescribing narcotics to patients who had no medical need for them, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced Friday.

On Thursday, a jury found Dr. John Dimowo, of Walnut, guilty of seven felony counts of unlawful prescription of a controlled substance.

According to the district attorney's office, undercover agents with the Medical Board of California received prescriptions for Adderall, Vicodin, Norco, and Xanax from Dimowo.

The agents went to his pain management clinic in Wilmington, between March 2012 and March 2013, and paid between $250 to $400 per visit.

The agents explained Dimowo did not perform any examinations prior to prescribing the narcotics.

Dimowo is scheduled to be sentenced on May 29, and faces up to seven years in local custody.
