LA County's Transportation Agency Gets New CEO

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles has a new transportation leader.

On Thursday, the board of the L.A. County Metropolitan Transportation Authority appointed Phillip Washington as CEO of the agency known as LA Metro.

Washington will oversee a $5.5 billion annual budget and a construction boom. Five new rail lines are being built, and Metro is involved in major freeway widening projects.

L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti, who chairs the Metro board, said in a statement that Washington offered a track record of ensuring construction projects were done efficiently and attracting federal funding.

Washington comes to L.A. from Denver, where he has been CEO of the Regional Transportation District.

He is a 24-year veteran of the Army with a master's degree in management from Webster University.
