LA County Updates Travel Advisory Allowing Fully Vaccinated People To Travel Without Quarantining, Testing

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — Los Angeles County health officials updated the county's travel advisory Monday in response to the new federal guidance issued last week.

In accordance with updated guidance issued Friday by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, people who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 can travel without testing or quarantining.

Under the county's new advisory, travelers who are not fully vaccinated must quarantine for seven full days if they have a negative test within three to five days after arriving in the county. If they do not get tested, they must quarantine for 10 full days.

"You do not need to get tested or self-quarantine if you are fully vaccinated or have recovered from COVID-19 in the past three months," CDC officials said. "You should still follow all other travel recommendations."

The guidance says "fully vaccinated travelers are less likely to get and spread COVID-19."

"For example, fully vaccinated grandparents can fly to visit their healthy grandkids without getting a COVID-19 test, or self quarantining, provided they follow the other recommended prevention measures," CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said at a White House briefing on Friday.

The CDC and L.A. County officials both advise that travelers continue to wear masks on public transportation and urge travelers to practice social distancing and to frequently wash hands or use hand sanitizer.

People who are not vaccinated are still urged by the CDC to delay any travel, "because travel increases your chance of getting and spreading COVID- 19."

Meanwhile Monday, the county reported one new COVID-19 death, and 366 additional cases, noting that the numbers tend to be artificially low on Mondays due to reporting lags from the weekend.

The numbers brought the county's total caseload to 1,222,447 and the death toll to 23,276.
