LA County Home Care Providers Rally In Support Of Pay Raise

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Thousands of Los Angeles County home care providers Tuesday held a rally and march to demand a pay raise.

The rally began at 8:30 a.m. at Plaza Olvera in downtown LA and was followed by a march to Grand Park.

The workers, who now make less than $10 an hour, want county supervisors to increase their wage to $15 an hour.

LA County home care workers provide in-home support for elderly Californians and people with disabilities, yet research shows that 81 percent of them live in poverty, 33 percent rely on public assistance and 18 percent depend on CalFresh to feed their families, according to officials.

A contract negotiation campaign known as We Care LA was launched in March. Hundreds of petitions have been signed in support of the campaign.
