LA County Deputy Injured After Crash Traps Her In Patrol Car

NORWALK (AP) — Los Angeles County authorities say a sheriff's deputy and another driver are hospitalized after a two-vehicle crash left the deputy trapped in her patrol car for more than a half hour.

Sgt. Hank Ortega says the deputy was responding to a routine call without lights or siren late Sunday morning when her car was broadsided at an intersection near Norwalk.

Ortega says the patrol car ended up wrapped around a utility pole and it took firefighters nearly 40 minutes to extricate the deputy. She was rushed to a hospital after complaining of leg pain. The conditions of the deputy and the other driver were not immediately known.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
