Armed suspect holds toddler hostage during standoff with LA County deputies

Suspect shot while holding baby hostage in Paramount

Los Angeles County deputies fatally shot a man who was holding a toddler hostage outside his girlfriend's home on Thursday night.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said they responded to the home in the 8000 block of Alhambra Avenue in Paramount after receiving a report of a boyfriend outside a house with a gun.

When deputies arrived, they found the suspect standing on the porch with a handgun in one hand and holding a 2-year-old toddler in his other arm. Deputies tried to negotiate a peaceful end with the suspect for 25 minutes, but he refused to hand over the child and put down the gun.

Deputies shot the suspect after he pointed the gun at them. Paramedics took him to the hospital, where he later died. The child was unharmed in the ordeal.
