LA City Attorney Closes More Than 500 Illegal Medical Marijuana Dispensaries

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — City Attorney Mike Feuer Thursday announced the closure of more than 500 illegal medical marijuana businesses across Los Angeles.

In total, 503 medical marijuana businesses have closed within Los Angeles since Feuer took office in July 2013.

"Many were close to schools, child care centers and other sensitive sites," explained Feuer. "Others were disrupting the quality of life in our neighborhoods."

The City Attorney's Office also filed 245 criminal cases against 1,000 defendants, including business operators and property owners of the illegal dispensaries.

Feuer has also worked to close a medical marijuana farmers market in July 2014, and a smartphone medical marijuana delivery application in December 2014, according to the City Attorney's Office.
