Six miles of streets from One Wilshire in downtown Los Angeles to Fairfax Avenue along Miracle Mile closed to traffic about 9 a.m. and open to cyclists and pedestrians. The event is expected to conclude at 4 p.m.

Organizers said more than 100,000 people were expected to participate in the "Iconic Wilshire Boulevard" route and would be met by food trucks, music, and entertainment along the way.

The next CicLAvia event is scheduled for Oct. 5.

CicLAvia was inspired by a similar car-free event in Bogota, Colombia.
