Kraft Foods Removing Artificial Preservatives From Popular Cheese Slices

ALTADENA (CBSLA.com) — Kraft Foods is removing artificial preservatives from its popular, individually wrapped cheese slices.

CBS2's Rachel Kim reports that sorbic acid is being replaced by natamycin, which the company says is a natural mold inhibitor.

"This is fantastic news. This means our voices are being heard and they're seeing that moms today want to be healthier," said mother Kate Wilkinson, who added that she stopped feeding her children the cheese slices because of the number of ingredients.

Last October, Kraft announced it was removing artificial coloring from several macaroni and cheese varieties.

The company says these changes come in response to the growing number of consumers who want natural foods.

"I would be totally willing to try it again," Wilkinson said.
