Knife-Wielding Man Shot, Wounded By LAPD Officers In Valley Village
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – A man allegedly holding a knife was shot and wounded by Los Angeles police in the early morning hours Friday in the San Fernando Valley neighborhood of Valley Village.
According to Los Angeles police, at approximately 2:25 a.m. officers responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon when they arrived to find a man holding a knife to his own neck.
Officers used a taser, then a 40mm less-lethal projectile launcher, both of which failed to subdue the man, according to LAPD Det. Meghan Aguilar.
He refused to follow their commands, and they opened fire on him, Aguilar said.
The man, believed to be in his 30s or 40s, was taken to a local hospital. His condition is unknown.
No officers were hurt. A large kitchen knife was recovered at the scene.
The exact circumstances which prompted officers to open fire were unclear.
